Recently, Acer has unveiled ICONIA Tabs, until today there are two models of Iconia available at stores in preorder state- Acer ICONIA Tab W and Acer ICONIA Tab A, where A stands for Andriod and W stand for Windows version. ICONIA Tab W500 is powered by latest AMD Ontario APU and Windows 7 combination while Acer ICONIA Tab A500 is powered by NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor and Android 3.0 Honeycomb. Acer ICONIA W500 specifications
Acer ICONIA W500 tablet is powered by AMD C Series C50 APU which has dual core processor and AMD Radeon HD 6250 Graphics, bundled together in a single chip. The cores of the processor are clocked at 1GHz frequency. The GPU is Microsoft DirectX 11 capable. It comprises of 80 shader cores. There is a Unified Video decoder3 engine which is able to decode H.264, VC1, DivX, and XviD video formats. Though the graphics is discrete level but it shares system memory. The processor also comprises of integrated memory controller and 1MB of L2 cache. This type of processor architecture helps to reduce power consumption and provides longer battery life. However, due to low processor speed, users can’t expect high end graphics processing from the device like gaming. You can, however, watch HD video in Acer Iconia W500 tab. The manufacturer claims that user can watch “4 hours of unplugged HD video playback” and 6 hours of web surfing.
The display of Acer W500 tab measures 10.1” diagonally and screen features HD LED backlit TFT LCD touch screen display. The maximum resolution supported by display is 1280*800.
The docking system of W500 comes with keyboard and mouse support. Besides it also comprises of USB 2.0 ports. Acer W500 tab itself connects with docking station through USB connector which is placed below the tablet
The utility of keyboard dock comes handy while you are traveling and do not need a physical keyboard. Even the docked keyboard and tablet fold in similar manner like a normal netbook or notebook.
The keyboard docking option provides flexibility to your working style, for example while watching video or surfing web you don’t need keyboard and can remove it. On the other hand when you need to type extensively, it gives you the option to dock the keyboard on the nearest flat surface and start typing.
Acer ICONIA W500 offers 2 GB onboard memory. When comes to storage it offers 32 GB SSD and is supported by mSATA connector.

Acer ICONIA W500 tab is available at quite a hefty price tag of $550. However, time will reveal the success of this tablet, since netbook with almost similar specs from acer is available at just over half of the tab’s price. However, this tab has its own benefits, provide more portability as compared to netbook or notebook.
