Encased in a Regal Purple Plastic cover, 15.6” HP 15-r137wm could be a very attractive laptop to some prospective buyers. HP15-r137wm Touchsmart laptop comes with 6GB memory and Touchscreen, USB 3.0 port, decent battery life and inbuilt optical drive. The laptop comes with 500GB hard drive. By adding another $80-$90, you can get a better machine like Dell Inspiron i3542-8333BK Touchscreen laptop with i5-4210U processor, 8GB memory, 1TB hard drive and Bluetooth connectivity. The laptop is available in black plastic but you can also take a look at Dell Inspiron i5547-3751sLV which comes with premium features like black lit keyboard and aluminum lid. Currently you will get it around $600 at Amazon and it also available at Walmart, with little higher price. Both the laptops offer much better performance compared to HP 15-r137wm. Asus X200MA-RCLT08

Asus has recently unveiled Asus X200MA-RCLT08 which costs very little for a touch-screen Windows 8.1 laptop and it also offers decent battery life. Asus X200MA-RCLT08 is available at $220-$250 at different stores including BestBuy and Fry’s. Its configuration is pretty decent for the price.  It resembles a lot like earlier X200MA laptop and built is mostly plastic (black texture), but it still manages to look decent. It is powered by an Intel Celeron N2830 dual core processor and is portable enough to be an everyday on-the-go laptop.  Unlike $199, HP Stream 11, this Asus laptop doesn’t come with SSD and Free Office 365 Personal for One Year but it has touchscreen which HP stream 11 lacks. Asus X200MA-RCLT08 comes with 1 USB 3.0 port and 1 USB 2.0 ports and it has HDMI as well. However, it lacks in DVD burner like other 11.6” laptop. Here is a brief review about specifications and performance of Asus X200MA-RCLT08.

Asus X200MA-RCLT08 is installed with Intel Celeron N2830 processor which has two cores and each core operates with 2.16GHz of base frequency. Due to Turboboost technology, the frequency can rise up to 2.41 GHz.  As long as your computing needs don’t go beyond basic productivity tasks, Asus X200MA-RCLT08  is a decent small-screen laptop. The graphics is handled by Intel HD graphics for Bay Trail processor. This laptop is not designed for CPU or GPU intensive tasks. When it comes to gaming, some older low end games are playable in this machine.

Asus X200MA-RCLT08 comes with 4GB memory which is not expandable further. It comes with 500GB 5400rpm hard drive which is preloaded with Windows 8.1 operating system. The 11.6” LED backlit HD display offers resolution of 1366 X 768 pixels which means it can support 720p but not 1080p content. The unit is very much capable of displaying full HD content on compatible HDTV and other external displays. On the other hand HP Stream 11 comes with 32GB SSD which definitely boosts its performance.

HP 14-z040wm Stream Notebook

HP 14-z040wm belongs to HP’s latest low-cost Stream series of laptop notebooks, which HP had announced in July. It comes with Windows 8.1 Operating system and is a decent alternative to Chromebook . It is non-touch laptop and is installed with 32GB SSD and 2GB memory.  However, both drive and memory are not upgradable. User will get only 12-13 GB free spaces as a large part of SSD will be taken up by Windows OS and other preinstalled software.  HP 14-z040wm is powered by AMD A4 Micro-6400T quad core processor which can compete with Intel Celeron processor. The Integrated Radeon R3 graphics is better than Intel HD graphics that comes with Intel Celeron Baytrail processor. You can use this machine for web-browsing, typing documents/spreadsheets, emailing, video calling and casual gaming. HP 14-z040wm is a relatively thin model and stands just 0.70 inches thin. Made up of part aluminum and part plastic, it weighs around 3.8 pounds which is quite light considering its size. However, it doesn’t come with inbuilt optical drive. The notebook is fan-less model and runs quite. The 3 cell lithium ion battery offers up to 6.5 hours of battery life.  Acer has also launched similar kind of laptop, Acer Aspire E 11 ES1-111M-C40S, which has 11.6” screen and costs you around $200. Here is a brief review about specifications and performance of HP 14-z040wm

HP Silver 14″ 14-z040wm Stream Notebook Specification and performance

Like HP 14-z010nr, HP Stream 14-z040wm gets its power from AMD A4 Micro-6400T accelerated processor which has four cores. It operates with base frequency of 1 GHz and frequency can rise up to 1.6GHz, if system needs. As told earlier, it can compete with Intel Celeron Baytrail processor. The laptop comes with Radeon HD R3 graphics which is part of the APU and supports low end and older games. However, this notebook is not designed for high end gaming, but you can still play browser and apps games in this machine. Streaming internet video will not be an issue with this machine. The performance laptop will be similar to HP Stream 14-z010nr.

HP 14 z040wm is installed with On-board 2GB 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM which is not expandable further. It comes with 32GB SSD, which also is not user upgradable. However, additional storage space can be added with a MicroSD card.

The 14” LED backlit high definition screen supports 1366 X 768 pixels resolution which is capable of streaming up to 720p playback only.  The keyboard is not backlight.

Beside MicroSD card reader, it comes with 2 USB 2.0 ports, 1 USB 3.0 port, HDMI and combo audio port. Wireless networking is supported by single band 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth. It comes with HD webcam. Sound is supported by Beats Audio with Quad speaker.

Final Thoughts

HP 17-f029wm Natural Silver 17.3″ Pavilion Laptop

HP 17-f029wm comes with decent hardware configuration and features for its price and is lightweight for a 17.3”-inch laptop. As long as your computing needs don’t exceed basic productivity tasks, HP Natural Silver 17.3″ Pavilion 17-f029wm is a decent big-screen laptop. At $430 (plus taxes), it looks like a good deal. For around $450, you can get a fast AMD A6-6310 quad-core processor, 4GB of RAM, a large 750GB 5400 hard drive, a DVD burner and HDMI out and a big 17.3” inch screen. It also has a handful of little extras making it feel like you’re getting even more for your money. For instance, you will get Beats Audio dual speakers, 2 USB 3.0 ports and Bluetooth. Pavilion 17-f029wm is useful for typing docs and spreadsheets, browsing web, watching videos, listening music etc. It also supports casual gaming and encoding/decoding media and light photo editing. However, if your computing needs include gaming and CPU intensive tasks like converting file formats and compressing large files then “HP 17 AMD Quad-Core A10-5745M with 6GB memory” could be a more suitable option. The price is just above $500. However, both the laptops are not touchscreen enabled. Here is a brief review about specifications and performance of HP 17-f029wm

HP Natural Silver 17.3″ Pavilion 17-f029wm Specification and Performance

HP 17-f029wm is installed with AMD Quad core A6-6310 accelerated processor which operates with base frequency of 1.8GHz and, on system demand, the frequency can rise up to 2.4GHz. An integrated AMD Radeon R4 graphics is the only graphics solution for this laptop which, even though not a strong integrated graphics, can run low end games. You can play Sims 4, Dead space 3, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Tomb Raider, Dota 2, World of Warcraft etc., in low to medium resolution and settings. But if you want to play games like Thief abd Risen 3 etc., you will be disappointed. Buyers can use this laptop for entry level photo and video editing, but it is not suitable for large photo and video editing. If you need laptop for gaming and also want smooth performance for Handbrake, Blender, you can consider Acer Aspire E5-571G-38VF 15.6-Inch Laptop which comes with discrete NVIDIA GeForce 820M Graphics with 1GB video memory. However, you will have to spend an extra $50-$70. But it doesn’t have optical drive.

HP Pavilion 17-f029wm offers 4GB RAM in single slot. Memory is not user upgradable/expandable. However, 4GB memory is enough for basic computing. It can aptly handle running multiple programs, such as Web browsing, emailing, and running word processor, all while playing music in the background. HP 17-f029wm comes with 750GB hard drive which is preloaded with Windows 8.1 operating. It doesn’t come with full version of Antivirus and Microsoft office.

The 17.3-inch LED-backlit display has a resolution of 1,600×900 pixels which is good enough to support 720p HD playback, but is not full HD or 1080p compatible. However, it is not entirely unexpected at this price. You can connect the laptop to compatible HDTV to watch Full HD playback though.

HP 17-f029wm offers good number of ports and external connectivity options to hook up to external drives and displays easily. It comes with Multi-format digital media card reader for Secure Digital cards, 2 USB 3.0, 1 USB 2.0, 1 HDMI, 1 RJ-45 (LAN) and 1 Headphone-out/microphone-in combo jack. Network connectivity is supported by Fast Ethernet, single band 802.11 b/g/n Wi-fi and Bluetooth. Keyboard is not backlit type.

Price-feature ratio is good

750GB hard drive

Cons of HP pavilion 17-f029wm

No touch screen

Final thoughts

HP pavilion 17-f029wm is a reasonably priced 17-inch laptop with decent hardware specs to handle average computer tasks like word processing, e-mail, Web surfing and casual gaming. However, if you need something more powerful, you can take a look at HP 17 AMD Quad-Core A10-5745M laptop coming with 6GB memory.

Dell Inspiron I7547-4020SLV

Dell Inspiron I7547-4020SLV delivers decent performance and long hours of battery life. It comes in an attractive, thin aluminum body and is reasonably priced.  The price is fully justified if you consider its hardware configuration. You will get a nice 1080p IPS display, 8GB memory, core i7 processor, wireless ac connectivity and backlit keyboard. However, missing optical drive and SSD drive may let down some of the buyers. Dell Inspiron I7547 4020SLV weighs around 4.5lbs and is just 0.8” inch thin. The laptop can run all office applications and support jobs like casual gaming, photo and video editing, 2D designing, small 3D rendering. But if you need something more powerful, you can consider Dell i5547-15001sLV which comes with 16GB memory and dedicated AMD Radeon HD R7 M265 graphics (with 2GB of dedicated video memory). It will cost you little extra though. Both the laptops are good for office and home use. Here is a brief review of specifications and performance of Dell Inspiron I7547-4020SLV.

Dell Inspiron I7547-4020SLV specification and performance

Dell Inspiron I7547-4020SLV has Intel core i7-4510u processor. Unlike mainstream i7-4700HQ processor, it has only 2 cores and comes with 4MB of cache memory rather than 6MB of Cache. Intel i7-4510u supports hypethreading and turboboost, which means each core can handle two threads at a time and, if system demands, core frequency can rise up to higher level.  In this case, the processor operates with base frequency of 2.0GHz and can rise up to 3.1 GHz. It comes with Intel HD 4400 graphics. Along with 8GB memory, it offers enough performance for day to day computing as well as gaming. However, not all games are playable in highest settings.  You can run photo and video editing software or can do small 3D designing. One should keep in mind these programs need processing power as well as memory. Thus, if you are thinking of using Inspiron I7547-4020SLV for such programs, better buy a professional grade laptop. For instance- Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E545 20B20011US 15.6″ laptop which is powered by Quad core AMD A6-5350M that operates with up to 2.90GHz. It has 16GB memory and 250GB SSD and runs on Windows 7 OS. It is priced just under $700. However, the display doesn’t offer 1080p resolution.

Dell Inspiron I7547 4020SLV comes with 8GB Dual-channel DDR3L RAM. Memory speed is 1600MHz. The laptop comes with 1 TB hard drive which works with 5400 rpm speed.  The laptop runs on Windows 8.1 operating system. The 15.6” IPS display offers 1920 X 1080 pixel resolutions which means you can view full HD movies and videos on laptop screen itself. However, it doesn’t offer SSD or hybrid drive.

Dell Inspiron I7547-4020SLV comes with limited number of ports and connectivity features. It comes with one USB 3.0 port, one USB 2.0 port, HDMI, one headphone and microphone combo (headset) port. Wired network connectivity is missing in this laptop. On the other hand, Dell i5547-15001sLV touchscreen laptop comes with wired network connectivity as well. Inspiron I7547-4020SLV comes with 802.11 b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. It is WiDi capable as well, which means user can wirelessly transmit laptop content to compatible Television. However , to achieve this you will require Netgear Push Adapter.

The laptop comes with 3-cell lithium-ion battery which offers up to 6 hours of battery life

Pros of Dell Inspiron I7547-4020SLV

Stylish laptop for high performance

Price feature ratio is decent

Wireless ac

Cons of Dell Inspiron I7547-4020SLV

Limited ports

Final thoughts

Even though the hardware configuration and performance of Dell Inspiron I7547-4020SLV are somewhat average for the price,   its  aluminum chassis, backlit keyboard, and 1080p touch screen give it a premium feel. If you need more memory and dedicated graphics with video memory, you can consider Dell i5547-15001sLV

HP TouchSmart 15-g014dx laptop

HP TouchSmart 15-g014dx laptop is a decent choice for bargain hunters. The laptop is powered by AMD A8-6410 quad core processor. It has 4GB memory, 500GB hard drive and will cost you around $380. HP hasn’t revamped the exterior and it comes with same plastic body with black licorice glossy lid. The unit weighs around 5.34lbs. HP 15-g014dx is a good for those who are looking for an everyday computing machine. Beside typing documents and browsing web, it can stream HD videos very well. However, this laptop is not suitable for running 3Ds max, AutoCAD, Revit, Maya and other engineering stimulation software. HP TouchSmart 15-g014dx incorporates inbuilt DVD drive and has USB 3.0 and HDMI. It doesn’t offer backlit keyboard and USB charging port. If you are an Intel worshipper and looking for a laptop that offers similar performance, you can take a look at Acer Aspire E5-571P-31LT which comes with 1.9GHz Intel core i3-4030u processor, 4GB RAM and 500GB hard drive. It comes with Gigabit Ethernet and Bluetooth, features missing in HP 15-g014dx. On the other hand, Acer Aspire lacks optical drive. HP TouchSmart 15-g014dx Specification and Performance

HP TouchSmart 15-g014dx gets its processing power from a quad core AMD A8-6410 APU or accelerated processor which supports AMD Turbocore technology. It supports DirectX 11.2 and operates with a speed of up to 800 MHz. You can play games like Dead Space 3, Sims 4, GRID 2 and Dota 2 with medium resolution and settings, However, games like Thief, Watch Dogs, Assassin’s Creed  IV  will struggle to run in this machine. You can play high end games in low to medium resolution in this Acer Aspire model.

HP 15-g014dx laptop comes with 4GB DDR3L SDRAM but the memory is not user upgradable or replaceable.  It comes with 500GB 5400rpm hard drive with Windows 8.1 preinstalled in it.

The 15.6” display of HP 15-g014dx features HD backlit high definition screen and offers native resolution of 1366 X 768 which is standard now a days. It supports up to 720p HD video playback but for 1080p content playback, you need to connect your laptop with 1080p TV or monitor via HDMI.

HP 15-g014dx offers standard number of ports which include 2 USB. 2.0 ports, 1 USB 3.0, HDMI, headset, SD card reader and Ethernet port. Network connectivity is supported by Fast Ethernet and single band 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi. There is an HD webcam as well.

The 3 cell lithium polymer battery supports up to 5 hours of battery backup. However, it depends upon usage.

Final Thoughts

Just under $400, it is a good touchscreen laptop which offers plenty of power for day to day tasks as well as casual gaming. The main competitor of this laptop is Acer i3-4030u Powered touchscreen laptop which  is available at $360.

Acer Aspire ES1-512-C12D

Acer Aspire ES1-512-C12D is a decent choice for anyone looking to buy a cheap laptop. For less than $200, you get a machine with Intel Celeron N2840 processor, 2GB RAM and 320GB hard drive. The processor is powerful enough to handle everyday computing but it comes with low installed memory and 5400rpm hard drive. As a result, you can’t expect very fast performance from it. At a similar price, you can get Acer Aspire E 15 ES1-512-C88M which comes with 4GB RAM and 500GB hard drive. 2 GB memory is too low as a big part of the memory will be taken up by Windows 8.1. Although it is cheap laptop, it comes with all necessary ports and connectivity features. However, it doesn’t include optical drive. Acer ES1-512-C12D offers decent battery life. The laptop doesn’t come with full version of Microsoft Office. It weighs around 5.29lbs. Being a cheap laptop, premium features like backlit keyboard and SSD drive are not available with this laptop. Here is a brief review about specifications and performance of Acer aspire ES1 512 C12D :

Acer Aspire ES1-512-C12D Specification and Performance.

Acer Aspire ES1-512-C12D runs on Intel Celeron N2840 dual core processor which operates with 2.14 GHz frequency and, if system demands, the frequency can hit up to 2.58 GHz frequency.  It comes with integrated Intel HD graphics. Coupled with 2GB RAM, you can’t get  high performance from this laptop but it is suitable for typing documents, web browsing, listening music, Skype, social networking etc. This laptop is not suitable for converting audio and video file formats, video editing and PC gaming. However, few browser games are playable in this machine. This model runs cool.

Acer ES1-512-C12D comes with 2GB memory and the memory can be expanded up to 8GB but upgrading memory is not so easy in this laptop. There is only one memory slot and you have to disassemble almost entire machine to upgrade memory.  It is doable but is a tricky task. You can better select HP 15-f039wm which comes with 4GB memory and DVD drive but will cost an additional $50 to your. The laptop runs on Windows 8.1 with Bing.

Acer Aspire ES1-512 C12D is a mid-size laptop with 15.6” display. The display features LED backlit high definition panel. It is not an IPS panel though. You will get standard viewing angle. Max resolution supported by display is 1366 X 768 pixels.

Alternately, you can opt for Acer E3-111-C0WA which is powered by N2830 and has 320GB SATA hard drive. However, the performance will be little sluggish as it comes with 5400rpm hard drive. The laptop runs noiselessly.
