AMD A6-5200 vs Intel core i3-3110M vs Intel core i3-3120M

AMD always wants to deliver more performance at a competitive price and AMD A6-5200 accelerated processor or APU is a good example this gesture.  Intel core i3-3110M and core i3-3120M are the main competitors of AMD A6-5200.  Even though Intel processors operate with higher clock speed, still they have fewer cores.  It has been observed that AMD offers more cores for same or lesser price than its Intel counterpart.  Now question arises, which one is better of the two?  Being an Intel or AMD fan, you can’t just say that Intel core i3-3110M/ AMD A6-5200M is the best.  That would be absurd. Let us start by comparing specifications of each of the processors.

AMD A6-5200 is a quad core accelerated processor, with each core operating with 2GHz frequency, and has 2MB L2 cache. L2 cache is faster than L3 cache. More cores can process multiple programs and threads at the same time.

Both Intel Core i3-3110M and Core i3-3120M are dual core processors. Intel core i3-3110M operates with 2.4GHz while Intel core i3-3120M operates with 2.5GHz.  There is no denying the fact that Intel core i3 has Hyperthreading technology which enables each of the cores to handle two threads at a time and act as quad core processor to the operating system. Two virtual cores, however, are not as fast as physical cores because there will be instances when both of the virtual cores would be using the same part of the physical core. It may reduce the performance.

When it comes to single threaded application, both  Intel core i3 processors will get advantage over AMD A6-5200 APU.

AMD A6-5200M is fabricated with 28nm technology while Intel core i3-3120M and Intel core i3-3110M uses 22nm manufacturing process. However, both the manufactures use different process of fabrication.


AMD A6-5200 comes with Radeon HD 8400 integrated graphics, based on GCN architecture of AMD, which is comparable to Intel’s HD 4000 graphics. Both the graphics are DirectX 11 capable but both the graphics do not support high end PC gaming and are capable of running low demanding games only.

TDP Rating

AMD A6-5200 comes with low TDP rating (25w) as compared to Intel core i3-3110M and core i3-3120M (35w). Thus, AMD A6-5200 is more energy efficient.

Additional features

AMD A6-5200 comes with AES Instruction Set which helps in protecting your data. This feature is not available with Intel core i3 ivybridge mainstream processor. On the other hand, Intel core i3-3110M and i3-3120M incorporate Execute disable bit feature which provides protection from processing of malicious programs.

If you have to choose between Intel core i3 powered laptop or AMD A6-5200, then both CPU and APU are decent for regular computing and casual gaming.

Intel core i3-4010U vs Intel core i3-3217U

Intel core i3-4010U vs Intel core i3-3217U – which one is the better processor- such queries are very common. We understand that anyone asking these questions clearly need some kind of help in one direction or the other, or may be looking for some guidance.
Intel core i3-4010U processor is a dual core processor belonging to 4th generation Intel processor or Haswell family while Intel core i3-3217U is also a dual core processor but belongs to 3rd generation or Ivy Bridge family. Both the processors are  built with 22nm technology. Ivy Bridge was a die shrink of Sandy Bridge processor and fabrication process moved down from 32nm to 22nm. Haswell  also used the same 22 nm manufacturing process but it is using a new microarchitecture that is more efficient. However, overall performance of a laptop does not entirely depend on processor. The performance also depends on amount and speed of memory, type of hard drive etc.

Intel core i3-4010u comes with Data protection technologies like AES New Instructions and Secure Key which help in protecting your data. These technologies are missing in core i3-3217U processor.


When it comes to graphics, Intel core i3-3217U comes with Intel HD 4000 integrated graphics while Intel core i3-4010U has Intel HD 4400 graphics. Intel HD 4400 offers improved 3D performance over that of Intel HD 4000. However, both the processors are unable to run high end games as both are designed to support regular computing and not PC gaming.

Intel core i3 4010u as well as Intel core i3 3217u are ULV or Ultra low voltage processor. The processors come with low TDP. TDP rating for i3-3217u is 17watt while that of i3-4010u is 15Watt. Thus, i3-4010u is more energy efficient.

Intel Pentium 2020M dual core processor review

Intel Pentium 2020M is a dual core processor and each core operates with 2.4 GHz frequency. The processor is 3rd generation Pentium processor and is based on ivy bridge architecture.  It has 2MB of level 3 cache. This processor is designed for entry level mainstream laptops. Intel 2020M Pentium processor is ideally meant for everyday computing tasks like typing documents, browsing internet with multiple tabs, social media, watching HD videos but, due to high clock speed, it offers more than regular computing. With sufficient memory, Pentium 2020M offers better performance for occasional editing photos, encoding of audio/videos and occasional gaming. The TDP rating of this processor is 35 watts.

Pentium 2020M doesn’t support Hyperthreading technology which means each core can handle single thread at a time. Unlike other Pentium processors, it doesn’t support Turboboost technology either. The aggressive clock speed of the processor makes it suitable for business use as well.  Users can work with MS Excel or other spreadsheet application, create presentation with PowerPoint or with other presentation program, print PDFs on Pentium 2020M equipped machine. It can also compress large files.

Intel Pentium 2020M comes with Intel HD graphics which usually comes with 3rd generation processor. Both, graphics and processor are fabricated with 22nm lithography. This Intel HD graphics has been improved over earlier Intel HD 3000 graphics that comes with Intel SandyBridge processor. The graphics operates with 650 MHz and the frequency can boost up to 1.1 MHz.  The graphics supports up to 3 displays. It supports full HD playback as well. The graphics has DirectX 11 support and offers casual gaming as well. Not all high end games are playable with this graphics but games like Tomb raider, Gird 2, Skyrim can be played in low details and settings. Other low end games like Fifa 13, starcraft II heart of the swarm and older low end games like Sims 3, half life 2 etc. can be played fluently. The gaming performance of Intel 2020M processor can be increased by pairing it with a dedicated graphics card like NVIDIA Geforce GT 740M with 2 GB video memory. Such a combination offers lot of gaming. User can play Battlefield 3, Far cry 3, Assassin’s Creed in medium settings.

Intel Pentium 2020M features dual channel memory controller. It is supports up to 32GB memory. However, it entirely depends upon computer manufacturer, how much memory they will offer with the system. Types of memory supported memory are DDR3-1333, DDR3-1600, DDR3L-1333, DDR3L-1600.

Pentium B960 vs Pentium 2020M

Toshiba Satellite P55-A5312 is Intel 4th generation/ Haswell core i5 equipped laptop, available at a listed price of $630 at Best Buy. It is not a touch screen laptop. The basic clock speed is 1.6 GHz which is, somewhat low, but it can auto overclock up to 2.6 GHz.  The integrated HD 4600 is the improved version of earlier Intel HD 4000 graphics. The mid-size 15.6” display offers Full HD video playback.  6 GB memory helps to boost multi-tasking. With 750 GB hard drive it offers ample storage.  It comes with back lit keyboard. The laptop weighs 5.3 pounds which should not be considered bulky but it is not a light weight model either.  The laptop is easily movable.  P55-A5312 can perform entire basic computing tasks smoothly.  It is most suitable for watching movies or videos, in full HD and Presentation. Low end games are also playable. However, Crysis 3 or Battlefield 3 can hardly be played even at low details and setting. P55-A5312 offers plenty of ports for external connectivity.

Encased in a silver finish outfit, Toshiba Satellite P55-A5312 houses Intel core i5-4200u which is a dual core processor. Each core operates with 1.6 GHz frequency and turbo-boosts up to 2.6 GHz. It offers 3MB of L3 cache. Though built around Haswell architecture, it is not a powerful processor. Compared with similar clocked core i5 ivy bridge/3rd generation processor, it is only 6-10% faster. If you compare i5-4200u with Intel core i5-3317u, the former is slightly faster than the latter. More precisely, it is almost equivalent to i5-3337u which operates with 1.8 GHz. However, performance depends upon other supported hardware, like amount of memory and hard drive speed. The integrated graphics, Intel HD 4600 supports DirectX 11.1 and open CL 1.2.  Together with 6 GB memory, you can watch HD videos, do light gaming and casual photo editing, media encoding/decoding.  Considering above details, Toshiba Satellite P55-A5312 cannot be termed as a gaming laptop.

The 750GB, 5400 rpm hard drive comes preinstalled with Windows 8 Operating System. Integrated DVD burner is present in this laptop.  The bezel houses HD webcam with integrated microphone.

As told earlier, model P55-A5312 offers impressive number of ports which include 2 USB 2.0 and 2 USB 3.0. Beside this, it also comes with one HDMI and VGA port, headphone and microphone jacks. The keyboard is of Chiclet style and arrow keys are of half sized. There is a dedicated numeric keypad. The touchpad has a chromed plastic ring encircling it.

The network connectivity features include Gigabit Ethernet as wired connection. The wireless connectivity is supported by Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230, 2×2 BGN + Wi-Di Capable and Bluetooth.

Comparison: AMD A6-1450 APU vs Intel Celeron 1037U

AMD A6-1450 is a quad core mobile APU or accelerated processor which is designed for ultrabooks, tablets and thin laptops. The basic frequency of this processor is 1 GHz but the APU is integrated with AMD turbo core feature, thus, the frequency can boost up to 1.4GHz. A6-1450 APU is fabricated with 28nm technology.  This processor comes with 2MB of L2 cache. The TDP rating of this processor is 8W

On the other hand, Intel Celeron 1037U is a dual core processor and is intended for ultrabooks and small to midsize laptops. Each core operates with 1.8GHz frequency and has 2MB of L3 cache. It doesn’t come with turboboost technology. So clock speed can’t be boosted up.  The TDP rating of Celeron 1037U is 18W.

As AMD A6-1450 is a quad core processor, it can handle multithreaded applications or multitasking, with its four cores, much efficiently than Celeron 1037U. If operating frequency is your point of concern then the Celeron processor would make a better choice.

When it comes to power consumption, AMD A6-1450A APU is more energy efficient than Celeron 1037U processor.


AMD A6-1450 comes with Radeon HD 8250 graphics that operates with a maximum of 400MHz/300MHz frequency and is supported by DirectX 11. On the other hand, Intel Celeron 1037U comes with Intel HD Graphics built for IVY bridge processor that operates with 350 MHz base frequency. Frequency can boost up to 1Ghz. It supports DirectX11 as well. Considering the performance, there is not much of a difference between these two graphics.  Both are low end graphics and support casual gaming only.

Advance features comparison

AMD A6-1450 comes with AES technology, which helps in securing your data. This feature is missing in Intel 1037U. AMD processor also features AMD Turbo Dock technology that permits a tablet device to increase its performance when paired with a compatible base unit.  However, not all devices that incorporate this APU, offer AMD Turbo Dock technology. It depends on manufacturer of the device.

Again, Intel Celeron 1037U comes with executable disable bit that offers protection from malicious software and certain viruses.

With higher operating frequency and more cache, Intel Celeron 1037U scores better over AMD A6-1450. The passmark score for Intel Celeron 1037U is 1929 and that for AMD A6-1450 it is 1577.

Intel Celeron 1007U Dual core Processor

Intel Celeron 1007U is a dual core mobile processor which is designed for ultrabooks and small laptops. Each core operates with 1.5 GHz frequency and has 2MB of L3 cache.  This is an ultra low voltage processor (ULV) and comes with integrated graphics. The processor doesn’t support Hyperthreading and turbo boost technology. Thus, each core can process only one thread, at a time.  The processor is an Ivy Bridge processor or Intel’s third generation processor and is fabricated with 22nm technology.

Celeron 1007U specification

Considering it’s frequency, Celeron 1007U is suitable for basic computing task like typing, browsing or web surfing.  Paired with Intel HD graphics, the unit is designed to support up to 32 GB of memory. However, most laptop manufacturers allow you to upgrade memory up to 8GB only and few machine support maximum of 4GB memory. The memory types supported by the Intel Celeron 1007U are DDR3L- 1333/1600 and DDR3RS-1333/1600.

The integrated Intel HD graphics that comes with the processor is not a high end graphics. Basic frequency of the graphics is 350MHZ and it can turbo boost up to 1GHz. Intel Core i5-2430M Processor Review-2.4GHz frequecy

Intel Core i5-2430M is latest addition to Intel’s Core i5 Sandy Bridge mobile processors. It is a worthy successor to its previous model, Intel core i5-2410M.  Besides clock speed and implementation of AES, there are no significant differences between these two processors. Both belong to Sandy Bridge Core i5 family and are intended for mid-level notebooks and laptops.  Core i5-2430M was launched at Q4 2011, much later than i5-2410M. Here are more details about the processor –

Intel i5-2430M is a dual core processor and operates with 2.4GHz frequency. Due to the presence of Turbo Boost Technology 2.0, the frequency can boost up to 3.0GHz. However, overclocking depends on number of factors which are as follows-

As per Intel, the Turbo Boost Technology 2.0 is triggered when the Operating System needs the highest processor performance and depends on following factors :

  • Number of active cores
  • Estimated usage of current
  • Estimated usage of  power
  • Temperature of the processor

If the processor is working below these limits and applications demand additional performance, then the frequency of the processor will rises up dynamically to maximum limit.

Intel core i5-2430M also comes with Hyper Threading technology, which enables each core to run two threads simultaneously.

3MB of smart cache is associated with the processor .The cache memory can be shared by both, processor cores and graphics. We have also seen 3MB of smart cache in 1st generation of processors, but in that case, graphics was not able to share cache memory.  The instruction set is 64 bit and it fits into PPGA988 socket. Core i5-2430M is fabricated with 32nm technology and the processor die itself houses graphics, so graphics is also fabricated with 32nm. The graphics is known as Intel HD 3000 graphics, which operates with 650MHz frequency, and can Turbo Boost up to 1.2GHz. The graphics supports HDMI, DVI and dual display and it is capable of decoding HD videos. The graphics can be comparable with any entry level dedicated graphics.

Intel core i5-2430M also comes with integrated dual channel memory controller. It supports a maximum of 16GB memory. It supports DDR3-1066 and DDR3-1333 memory speed grade. It connects with other chipsets through DMI which transfer data of 5GT/s

Intel core i5-2430M is incorporated with advanced technologies like Virtualization and AES New instruction. AES New instruction comprises of seven new instructions. Intel Core i3-2330M Review-2.2GHz Frequecy

Intel Core i3-2330M is the latest mobile processor from Intel Sandy Bridge Processor family, which was launched during second quarter of year 2011. Core i3 2330M is a successor to i3-2310M. Each core of the processor operates with 2.2 GHz frequency and, like other core i3 processors, t his CPU also has Hyper Threading enabled. As i3 processors are dual core processors, both the cores of Intel core i3-2330M processor can process 4 threads at the same time, with the help of Hyper Threading technology.  Intel had earlier promised introduction of AVX instruction set into Sandy Bridge processor core and they have fulfilled the promise by incorporating AVX in Core i3-2330M processor.

Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) basically is a new 256 bit instruction set from Intel and is designed for applications which make intensive use of Floating Point (FP) calculation. Intel AVX is an extension to their earlier released instruction set, Intel SSE, for Pentium III series processors. Intel AVX significantly improves performance due to its rich functionality, resulting in better management of data and general purpose applications related to multimedia, 3D modeling, scientific calculations, financial applications and data analysis.

Core i3-2330M also offers 3MB Level 3 cache. Tertiary or L3 Cache is designed to accelerate access to frequently searched data and is used as large and shared data buffer on current multi-core processors. For example, Graphics can share L3 cache along with processor cores.

Like other Sandy Bridge processors, Intel core i3-2330M also comes with integrated graphics and memory controller.  However, graphics may be enabled or disabled depending on motherboard and chipset used. The integrated Graphics operates with 650MHz frequency and can Turbo Boost up to 1.1GHz frequency.  Though it is not a gaming graphics, still it can support many 3D games in low to medium details, depending upon processor and amount of memory available in the system. With core i3-2330M processor and 4GB memory, one can play older games like Counter Strike, WoW  etc., in low details and settings. The graphics support HDMI display port.  It also supports Intel wireless display which means users can transfer their laptop contents on TV wirelessly. The graphics provide smooth playback of HD videos. Performance wise, it can compete with any entry level dedicated graphics card.

If core i3-2330M processor is used with mid level dedicated graphics card then you might see improved graphics performance.

Intel core i3-2330M processor chip comes with integrated dual channel memory controller which supports maximum amount of 16GB of memory. Supported memory speeds are DDR3-1066 and DDR3-1333 and it can provide maximum memory bandwidth of 21.3 GB/s

Only difference between the two processors is that Intel Core i3-2310M operates with 2.1GHz frequency where as Core i3-2330M operates with 2.2GHz frequency. As such, users will not see any major difference in performance while working with either of the processors.


Intel Atom N570 Dual Core Processor Review

Intel Atom N570 processor is a dual core processor with Hyper Threading technology intended for Netbooks and Tablet PCs.  This processor belongs to Pineview family of Intel processors and is a successor to Intel Atom N550 processor.  Each core of the processor operates with 1.66 GHz and comes integrated with 1 MB of L2 cache.  The processor can best support computing tasks such as word processing, listening music, video chatting etc. However, due to presence of two cores with Hyper Threading technology, one can expect enhanced performance from the processor. So, for basic multitasking N570 equipped netbooks could be a good choice. Acer’s new stylish Aspire One Happy 2 series is built upon Atom N570 processors.

Intel N570 atom processor has been fabricated with 45nm lithography and can support 64 bits of instruction set. The processor is likely to require less power to run, during normal operations.  The TDP or thermal design power of the processor is set to 8.5 watt. N570 comes with single channel integrated memory controller and supports DDR3 memory. It can support maximum of 2 GB memory and 667 MHz speed grade.

Atom N570 processor communicates with chipset through DMI or Direct Media Interface bus which can transfer data at 2.5GT/s. It comes with Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3150 which is an elementary level graphics. One can’t consider the system for gaming, even in low details and setting.  At the most, you can try older Sims, Halflife 2, GTA and other similar games. The graphics doesn’t support HDMI.

When it comes to advance features, Intel N570 processor supports Hyper Threading technology, which allows each core to process 2 threads at a time, Execute disable bit to stop execution of malicious programs or applications and thermal monitoring technology.

Intel Atom N550 vs N570

While comparing N570 atom processor with N550 you will find that all the features are same except the fact that N570 operates with higher frequency. Intel Atom N550 works with 1.5 Ghz, while N570 operates with 1.66Ghz.  The difference, however, is hardly noticeable while executing day to day tasks.

AMD E-350 vs Atom N570

The performance of graphics in case of AMD E -350 is very high as compared with Atom N570 processor.  AMD E-350 APU comes with AMD Radeon HD 6310 graphics, which can decode Full HD contents smoothly and can run many current games at low details, provided sufficient amount of memory is available. Also, in case of AMD E-350 APU, you can upgrade memory beyond 2GB.

If you compare Intel Atom N570 with AMD C-50 dual core APU, you will find that C-50 provides better graphics performance, even though it operates at 1GHz frequency, and provides higher and faster memory support.

Intel Pentium 957 Processor Review

Intel’s product page has recently listed a new Ultra-low voltage processors based on Sandy Bridge architecture. Intel Pentium 957 processor is aimed at ultra slim notebooks and laptops. Pentium 957 was recently incorporated in Samsung 3 series laptops. Each of the two cores of the processor operates with clock speed of 1.2 GHz frequency and has 2MB of L3 cache. The processor supports 64 bit instructions set and is fabricated with 32nm technology. The TDP of Intel 957 Pentium Processor is 17 watts.

Intel Pentium 957 Processor is a dual core processor. But, like Intel core i3 processors, it doesn’t incorporate Intel Hyper-Threading technology. So it can’t process multiple threads at the same time. It also lacks in Turbo Boost technology, thus, auto over-clocking is not possible. The main advantage of Pentium 957 processor is its low power consumption but one can’t expect high performance from this processor. More precisely, the specs of the processor indicate that it can do basic tasks like typing, browsing, listening to music and watching video for home and office users alike. However, as the processor has two cores, you can get better multitasking than single core Celeron processor or atom450 and 455 processors.


Like other Sandy Bridge processors, the processor die incorporates Intel HD graphics along with integrated memory controller and cache. The base frequency of graphics is 350 MHz, which can achieve max Dynamic frequency of 800MHz, and supports HDMI, DP, SDVO and eDP.  Similar to other Sandy Bridge processors, graphics is able to share level3 cache memory and supports dual display. However, graphics doesn’t offer all the features which come with core series of Sandy Bridge processors.


Intel Pentium 957 dual core processor supports a maximum of 8GB DDR3 memory and supported speed grades are DDR3-1066 and DDR3- 1333. Besides these, maximum supported memory bandwidth by Pentium 957 is 21.3 GB/s


Intel processor 957 doesn’t support Intel Virtualization technology, but offers basic features like Enhanced Speedstep technology for intelligent power usage. It also offers Intel Fast and Flex memory Access features to enhance the performance and Executable disable bit feature to prevent processing of malicious code.
