HP 15-bs087cl Review

With the release of HP 15-bs087cl, HP has demonstrated its capability to offer mid to high-end laptops at the budget price. It comes with few compromises as well. HP has packed a 7th generation Intel Core i7-7500u processor and 8GB RAM in this laptop but failed to add discrete graphics and Solid-state Drive. HP 15-bs087cl incorporates a slower 1TB 5400 rpm hard drive and has integrated Intel HD 620 graphics which uses system memory. Again, the laptop comes with standard 1366 X 768-pixel resolution which is not full HD resolution (1920 X 1080). For editing videos and photos or 3D modeling, full HD display and Solid State drive are preferable. However, the laptop is fast enough for day to day workload like running Microsoft Office, surfing the internet, streaming video and movies, emailing and Skype. You can also edit HD photo and video, transcode audio and video files and do 3D designing/rendering on this laptop. But do not expect fast performance for such tasks. You can also consider Acer E5-575G-75MD which is powered by Intel Core i7-7500u processor but has NVIDIA GeForce 940MX graphics with 2GB video memory. Additionally, it has 8GB DDR4 RAM (expandable up to 32GB). The Acer laptop comes with 256GB Solid state Drive, Full HD display, and Backlit keyboard.

HP 15-bs087cl doesn’t come with the backlit keyboard. Intel HD 620 graphics supports casual gaming. You can play games like Minecraft and Sims 4 smoothly on this machine but to play games like Need for Speed Payback Call of Duty WWII you need to reduce resolution. Keep in mind it is not a gaming laptop.

Unlike 8th gen Intel core i7-8550u, Intel core i7-7500u has only 2 cores and it operates with 2.7GHz base frequency while the frequency can rise up to 3.5GHz. It has 4MB of cache. On the other hand, Core i7-8550u has 4 cores and it operates with 1.8 GHz and the turbo frequency of this processor is 4GHz. It has 8 MB cache. Both the processors are hyperthreading enabled which means each core can handle 2 threads at a time. Acer E5-576G-81GD is powered by Intel core i7-8550u quad-core processor, 8GB RAM and 256GB Solid state drive. It also comes with Full HD display and backlit keyboard. The laptop offers latest dedicated NVIDIA GeForce MX150 graphics with 2GB Video memory. This laptop is suitable for editing videos, 3D designing, and PC gaming. However, this laptop is not a workstation grade laptop.  If you are looking for a laptop exclusively for 3D modeling or HD video editing or working with other CPU intensive tasks, you should go for a workstation grade laptop or desktop.

HP 15-bs087cl has installed with 8GB DDR4 RAM and the memory is not user expandable. It has two memory slots. If you want to expand memory, you must take permission from HP before the upgrade. Otherwise, you may end up voiding warranty. 2 TB hard drive comes preloaded with Windows 10 home 64-bit operating system. It doesn’t come with full version of Microsoft office. This laptop is not a touchscreen laptop.

HP-bs087cl is part of HP’s basic series of laptops. It comes with standard ports and connectivity features. It has 2 USB 3.1 Gen 1 (Data Transfer Only), 1 USB 2.0, 1 HDMI, 1 RJ-45 and 1 headphone/microphone combo. It has the webcam as well as SD card reader. The laptop lacks USB 3.1 Type C port while both the Acer laptop comes with USB 3.1 Type C port. The keyboard comes with numeric keypad. All the laptops mentioned here come with the integrated optical drive to burn CD and DVDs.

Network connectivity is supported by Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi ac and Bluetooth. The battery offers up to 5-6 offers of battery backup, depending upon usage.
