Powered by 6th gen Intel core i5-6200u processor and 6GB DDR3L RAM, HP 15AY067NR is fast enough for regular computing tasks like working with office programs, web browsing, emailing/skype etc. It also supports streaming videos and movies and casual gaming. You can run photo and video editing programs like Adobe Photoshop and Blender on this laptop.  3D modelling programs like AutoCAD and Solidworks can also be run on this laptop but more memory, faster storage and full HD display are preferable for such applications. Intel core i5-6200u is a 6th generation processor, operating with 2.3GHz of base frequency while the requency can rise up to 2.8GHz. It has 3MB of cache. HP 15AY067NR comes with integrated Intel HD 520 graphics which supports many latest games but all games are not playable at highest setting. For instance, you can play Lego games and Minecraft smoothly on this machine but you will be required to reduce resolution and settings to play XCOM2, Fifa 17 and The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt.  You can’t upgrade graphics. You can consider Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575G-53VG for your gaming requirements as it comes with Solid Discrete graphics.

HP 15AY067NR come with 6GB DDR3L 1600MHz RAM. There are two memory slots, populated with 4GB and 2GB memory stick. The laptop has 1TB 5400 rpm hard drive which is preloaded with Windows 10 64 bit operating system. The laptop doesn’t offer Full version of Microsoft office. You can replace hard drive with Solid State Drive, if you want to speed up things. Thus, watching movies will be a pleasurable experience in this machine. The laptop costs you little extra but it is worth every penny.

The 15.6” display of HP 15AY067NR offers max resolution of 1366 X 768 pixels and supports 720p content playback but not 1080p. However, with the help of HDMI you can watch Full HD content on external monitor or HDTV

Besides HDMI, it offers 1 USB 3.0, 2 USB 2.0, 1 HDMI, 1 RJ-45 and 1 headphone/microphone combo. It has a webcam as well. The keyboard comes with dedicated numeric keypad.  However, Acer E5-575G-53VG comes with 2 USB 3.0 and 1 USB 3.1 Type C port. It also has one USB 2.0 port. Final thoughts

HP 15AY067NR is a decent laptop for regular computing. You can use this machine for editing photo and videos and gaming. However, it is not a gaming laptop. Again, it comes with slower hard drive and standard display. If you are looking for something more useful at budget price, which can help in increasing productivity, then Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575G-53VG could be a better option.

It has 7th generation Intel core i3-7100u processor which operates at much higher speed of 2.4GHz. It also has 4GB DDR4 RAM and 1TB hard drive. Core i3-7100u offers much better performance compared to Core i3-5005u.Acer laptop comes with less memory but 4GB DDR4 RAM is enough for regular computing. Furthermore, the Acer laptop comes with full HD display ( 1920 X 1080)while Dell Inspiron I3558-0954BLK comes with standard display (1366 X 768). Both the laptops come with inbuilt optical drive. Here is a brief review about specifications and performance of  Dell I3558-0954BLK:

Intel core i3-5005u operates at fixed frequency of 2.GHz and you can’t over clock processor speed. It has 3MB of cache .The laptop comes with integrated Intel HD 5500 graphics. When it comes to gaming, it supports low end games like Dota 2 and Minecraft, in low to medium details. This laptop is not suitable for high end gaming, HD photo and video editing and 3D designing. It also has full HD display and backlit keyboard.  The laptop comes with 256GB Solid State Drive which is much faster than traditional 5400rpm hard drive. For HD video editing and 3D designing, a Solid State drive is preferable option over 5400rpm Hard Drive. SSD uploads files faster than hard drive.  The laptop supports almost all latest games.

Coming back to Dell I3558-0954BLK, it has 6GB DDR3L 1600MHz and the memory is expandable up to 8GB. Again, DDR4 RAM is faster than DDR3L RAM. The laptop comes with 1TB 5400rpm hard drive which is preloaded with Windows 10 64 bit home operating system. It doesn’t come with full version of Microsoft office.

The non-touch 15.6” display of model Dell I3558-0954BLK support max resolution of 1366 X 768p which means it supports up to 720p content playback only. However, with the help of HDMI, you can watch full HD (1080p) content on a compatible full HD display or monitor. Alternatively, you can consider Acer E5-575-33BM which offers full HD display.

Ports and connectivity features of Dell I3558-0954BLK include Two USB 2.0 ports,  One USB 3.0 port, HDMI, RJ 45, SD card reader and headphone/mic port. Final thoughts

Spending a  little extra  can get  you  Acer E5-575-33BM which offers 7th Generation Intel Core i3-7100U Processor, 4GB DDR4 RAM, a full HD display and a backlit keyboard.

HP 15-ba018wm 15.6″ Laptop Review

HP 15-ba018wm 15.6″ Laptop is intended for those who are looking for extremely inexpensive laptop for basic use. Even though AMD E2-7110 APU is a quad core processor, its performance is not even equivalent to 6th gen Intel core i3-6100u (you can check with different benchmark). With 4GB DDR3 RAM, this laptop can do all basic tasks like typing documents, internet surfing, watching movies and videos, downloading music, emailing/Skype etc.  However, it is not suitable for HD photo and video editing, 3D designing, music creation etc. You can edit small image files but you won’t get fast performance. HP 15 ba018wm doesn’t come with fancy features like backlit keyboard and full HD display. Alternatively, you can consider Acer Aspire E5-575-33BM which is also an inexpensive laptop and comes with 7th gen Intel core i3-7100u, which operates at much higher frequency of 2.4GHz. It comes with 4GB DDR4 RAM (expandable up to 32GB) and 1TB hard drive. It offer Full HD display and backlit keyboard. DDR4 RAM is faster than DDR3L RAM. HP 15-ba018wm comes with standard 1366 X 768p display which supports 720p content playback but not 1080p.

AMD E2-7110 is a quad core processor and operates at low speed of 1.8GHz. Compared to 7th generation Intel core i3-7100u, which operates with 2.4 GHz of fixed frequency,  AMD E2-7110 is quite slow.  Intel core i3-7100u, in spite of having two cores, is integrated with hyperthreading technology which means two cores can work as 4 virtual cores. The passmark score for AMD E2-7110 is 2268 while that for i3-7100u is 3759.

HP 15-ba018wm comes with Radeon HD R2 graphics which is a weak integrated graphics while Acer Aspire E5-575-33BM comes with Intel HD 620 graphics. Though Intel HD 620 is integrated graphics, it is more powerful than Radeon R2 graphics. Intel HD 620 supports DirectX 12 and you can play high end games like GTA V in low resolution as well. Dota 2, Minecraft are playable smoothly on this laptop. However, both the laptops are not suitable for high end PC gaming.

If you are looking for a cheap gaming laptop that offers performance for latest PC games, HD photo and video editing, some 3D designing, then you can consider Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4. It comes with more powerful Intel core i5-7200u processor (operates at 2.5GHz- 3.1GHz) and discrete NVIDIA Geforce 940MX graphics with 2GB video memory. Furthermore, it comes with 8GB RAM, full HD display and Solid State drive which is faster than standard 5400rpm hard drive. It also has backlit keyboard. Though it is expensive compared to HP 15-ba018wm, it is worth every penny you invest.

HP 15-ba018wm is installed with 4GB DDR3L RAM and the memory is expandable up to 16GB (according to the manufacturer, memory is not user accessible). It comes with 1TB hard drive which operates with 5400rpm speed. You can also replace hard drive with Solid State drive. Alternatively, you can consider HP Business Notebook which comes with powerful AMD A6-7310 APU, 8GB DDR3 and 128GB Solid State Drive. It supports wireless ac and Bluetooth while HP 15-ba018wm supports up to 802.11 b/g/n. Both the laptops come with wired network connectivity.

HP 15-ba018wm comes with non-backlit keyboard. The battery offers up to 6 hours of battery backup, however, it depends upon usage.

Final thoughts

If, under cash crunch, you are looking for a laptop for basic use then HP 15-ba018wm is a decent choice. However, if you can increase your budget, you can consider Acer Aspire E5-575-33BM which offers you more feature. It comes with strong processor ( compared to E2-7110) and offers backlit keyboard and full HD display.

HP 15-ay195nr Review

HP 15-ay195nr is a non-touch laptop available at very attractive price during black Friday Sale. As it is an inexpensive laptop, certain features have been compromised in the configuration. Let us start with its hardware specs. The laptop incorporates 7th gen Intel core i5-7200u processor, 8GB DDR4 RAM and 1TB hard drive. It comes with standard display (1366 X 768). As it is a low-priced laptop, Solid State Drive or SSD is missing from hardware specs. SSD can boost performance if you want to run photo and video editing program, digital designing etc., on a laptop.  SSD can also make booting faster. The laptop doesn’t have discrete graphics card and Intel HD 620 graphics is the only graphics option. Though it supports most of the latest games, all games are not playable at highest settings.  You can also consider Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4 which comes with same Intel core i57200u processor, 8GB DDR4 RAM but offers 256GB Solid state Drive. It comes with full HD display (1920 X 1080) as well, which produces more accurate colors. It has NVIDIA GeForce 940MX graphics with 2GB GDDR5 video memory while the graphics of HP 15-ay195nr uses system memory. The HP laptop doesn’t come with backlit keyboard while the Acer laptop offers backlit keyboard as well.

Acer E5-575G 57D4 costs you more but you get lots of additional features with it which increase overall performance of the machine. However, for regular computing, HP 15-ay195nr is a decent laptop. Here is a brief review about specifications and performance of HP 15-ay195nr

Intel core i5-7200u operates at base frequency of 2.5GHz and the frequency can rise up to 3.1GHz. It has 3MB of RAM. It is a good processor for regular work and supports HD photo and video editing, some 3D modelling as well. However, you won’t get fast performance with such applications. A Solid state drive will be more appropriate option for such tasks.  If you regularly dabble in 3D designing, you can consider Lenovo Ideapad 510 which comes with more powerful Intel core i7-7500u processor, 12GB DDR4 RAM and 256GB Solid state drive. It also offers NVIDIA Geforce 940MX graphics with 4GB video memory.  It comes with backlit keyboard and full HD keyboard as well. You can play almost all latest games smoothly on this machine.

HP 15-ay195nr comes with 8GB DDR4 RAM and the memory cannot be user expandable further. You can, however, expand memory up to 32GB DDR4 RAM in Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4. HP 15-ay195nr comes with traditional 1TB 5400 rpm hard drive. If you have good knowledge of laptop repairing then you can easily replace hard drive with a Solid state drive. Solid state drives offer you multiple benefits – it makes booting fast, uploads files faster compared to traditional hard drive.

The 15.6” display of HP 15-ay195nr supports max resolution of 1366 X 768 pixels which means it supports up to 720p content playback only. However, with the help of HDMI, you can watch full HD (1080p) content on a compatible full HD display or monitor.

Besides HDMi, it comes with 1 USB 3.0 (USB 3,1 and USB 3.0 port are same), 2 USB 2.0, 1 RJ-45 SD card reader and headphone out/mic in combo jack. It doesn’t come with USB 3.1 Type C port for fast data transfer. The keyboard is not a backlit while Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4 comes with backlit keyboard. Both the laptops come with webcam and inbuilt CD/DVD drive.

Network connectivity is supported by 802.11 b/g/n and 10/100Mbps Ethernet while Acer and Lenovo laptops come with Gigabit Ethernet, Wireless ac with backward compatibility and Bluetooth. The battery offers up to 6 hours of power backup, depending upon usage.

Final thoughts

HP 15-ay195nr is a decent laptop for regular computing. It has a good processor and enough memory but comes with slower hard drive. It may disappoint you if you are going to use this laptop for Adobe Photoshop, Blender, Solidwork etc. Alternatively, you can consider Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4 which has same processor but comes with dedicated graphics with video memory and Solid state drive. It also offers backlit keyboard which is missing in HP 15-ay195nr.

HP 15-BA051wm Laptop Review

HP 15-BA051wm is powered by AMD’s latest A10-9600p accelerated processor and is intended for home users as well as students. You can run office applications, surf internet with multiple tab, stream movies and videos, send emails, chat over skype, casual gaming and small photo and video editing as well. Although AMD A10-9600p is a quad core processor, a 6th gen i5-6200u offers slightly better performance.( according to passmark, 3D mark 11 benchmark). However, 7th generation i5-7200u offers more performance compared to AMD A10-9600p. HP 15-ba051wm is installed with 8GB RAM and 1TB hard drive. Considering the Black-Friday price, it is not very attractive because you may get A10-9600p powered HP touchscreen laptop at nearly similar price.  However, it has 6MB memory and you can expand memory up to 16GB. Both the laptops come with integrated optical drive. None of the laptops come with backlit keyboard. Both the laptops come with integrated Radeon R5 graphics which struggles with latest games like Battlefield 1, XCOM 2 and Fifa 17. However, games like world of Warcraft and Minecraft will be playable smoothly on this machine.

You can do small photo and video editing job as well as small CAD modelling on this laptop. But a Solid State Drive and full HD display are more useful. Again, for 3Ds Max a dedicated graphics with video memory is preferable. Solid state drives are faster than 5400 rpm hard drive thus it can speed up things a bit.  Nowadays laptops with dedicated graphics are getting quite cheap. For instance, you can consider Acer E5-575G-57D4 which comes with 7th generation intel core i5-7200u processor, 256GB Solid state Drive and  8GB DDR4 RAM ( expandable up to 32GB). It has Full HD display while HP 15-ba051wm supports max resolution of 1366 X 768p which supports 720p resolution but not 1080p.However, with the help of HDMI, you can watch full HD content on external display and monitor.

Acer E5-575G-57D4 offers 3 USB ports,  one of them is USB  3.1 Type C, while HP 15-ba051 wm offers only one USB 3.0 port. USB 3.0 Type C port is missing in HP laptop. Again, the Acer laptop supports Gigabit Ethernet and  Wi-fi ac with backward compatibility. It also supports Bluetooth 4.1 while the HP laptop comes with 10/100MBps Ethernet and 802.11 b/g/n.  Acer laptop costs you more but you  get plenty of features. It offers good value for money. To know more about the laptop read the HP 15-BA051WM review further.

The laptop comes with 8GB RAM and the memory is expandable up to 16GB. There are two memory slots. It comes with 1TB hard drive which operates with 5400rpm speed. You can replace hard drive with Solid State Drive for better performance.

Beside USB 3.0 port, HP 15-ba051wm offer 2USB 2.0 ports, HDMI, RJ 45 port and SD card reader. It has 720p webcam as well.  As told earlier, the keyboard is not a backlit but it comes with dedicated numeric keypad. The battery offers up to 5-6 hours of battery backup, depending upon usage.

Final thoughts

HP 15-BA051wm is a decent touchscreen laptop for home and small office. However, few drawbacks are there like missing solid state drive and full HD display. Alternatively, you can consider Acer E5-575G-57D4 which offers powerful processor, discrete graphics, a solid state drive and full HD display.

HP 15-ay192nr Review

HP 15-ay192nr is non-touch 7th gen i3-7100u powered laptop, decent for those who are looking for a computer that can run office applications smoothly. It also offers performance for day to day tasks like web browsing, streaming movies and videos, casual photo and video editing, playing low end games like Minecraft and Lego games. However, games like Battlefield 1 and call of duty infinite warfare will hardly run on this laptop. This laptop is suitable for AutoCAD, Revit, Solid work or for those who dabble in digital designing. Though i3-7100u is slightly faster than 6th gen i3-6100u, it still doesn’t support CPU demanding tasks. There are few drawbacks with this laptop as well. The laptop lacks backlit keyboard and doesn’t have Full HD display. If you are a video and movie enthusiast, full HD display can provide you crisp and clear picture. You can also consider Acer Aspire E5-575-33BM which is powered by 7th gen Intel core i3-7100u processor, 4GB DDR4 RAM and 1TB 5400rpm hard drive. It has full HD display and backlit keyboard. You can also expand the memory up to 32GB. It comes with Gigabit Ethernet, wireless ac and Bluetooth. HP 15-ay192nr supports up to 10/100MBos Ethernet LAN and 802.11 b/g/n while Wi-fi ac is missing in it,

Again, the Acer laptop offers 4 USB ports (2 USB 3.0, one USB 3.1 Type C for fast data transfer and one USB 2.0 port) while HP 15-ay192nr comes with one USB 3.0 and 2 USB 2.0 ports. None of these are high end laptops. Here is a brief review about specifications and performance of HP 15-ay192nr.

Intel core i3-7100u processor operates with 2.4GHz of fixed frequency. It has two cores. Basically, it is little faster than 6th gen Intel core i3-6100u which operates with 2.3 GHz . It also has 3MB of cache. This Black Friday, you can find many high end latest laptops available at cheap price. For instance, Acer E5-575G-57D4 which comes with 7th gen Intel core i5-7200u processor. The processor operates at base frequency of 2.5GHz and the frequency can rise up to 3.1GHZ. Performance of this processor is almost equivalent to 6th gen i7 processor. The laptop comes with 8GB DDR4 RAM and 256GB Solid state drive. This laptop also offers discrete NVIDIA geforce 940MX graphics with 2GB DDR5 RAM.

HP 15-ay192nr lacks dedicated graphics and Intel HD 620 graphics is the only graphics option for this laptop. Being integrated, you can’t upgrade graphics either. Again, NVIDIA Geforce 940MX not only increases gaming performance, it also supports media editing programs. Solid State Drives are much faster than hard drive and speed up 3D rendering. Thus it is very useful if you dabble with 3D designing. This Acer laptop also comes with full HD display.

The HP 15-ay192nr is installed with 8GB memory and the memory is not user expandable. 1TB 5400rpm hard drive comes preloaded with Windows 10 operating system.

HP 15-ay192nr supports max resolution up to 1366 X 768 pixels which can display 720p content but not 1080p. However, with the help of HDMI you can watch Full HD content on HDTV.

Besides USB ports, the laptop has 1HDMI, 1 RJ-45 (LAN) and 1 Headphone-out/microphone-in combo jack.  The laptop has webcam and SD card reader as well. The battery offers up to 6 hours of battery backup.

Final thoughts

If you consider Black Friday price, I will not hesitate to say it is one of the most attractive laptop deals of the season. However, few drawbacks like non-backlit keyboard, low resolution screen and missing wireless ac may disappoint some of you.

HP 15-f222wm Touchscreen Laptop

HP 15-f222wm is a touchscreen laptop but it comes with pretty basic hardware configuration. For instance, it has Intel Pentium N3540 processor, 4GB RAM and 500GB hard drive. So you wouldn’t expect any great performance from this laptop.  However, the laptop packs enough power for typing term papers, processing spreadsheets, web browsing, streaming movies and videos and emailing/skype. The laptop comes with pretty basic integrated graphics which hardly supports latest PC games, however, you can play Sims and Minecraft in low resolution. HP 15-f222wm is not suitable for Adobe photo and other image or video editing software. Though Pentium N3540 is a quad core processor, architecturally it is very weak. The processor performance is not even equivalent to 7th generation Intel core i3-7100u dual core processor. So if you are looking for a laptop that offers performance for tasks like making presentations, working with documents and Spreadsheet, streaming HD movies videos, small photo and video editing, then Acer E5-575-33BM will be a more suitable option. It comes with 7th gen i3-7100u processor which operates with 2.4GHz of fixed frequency. Furthermore, i3-7100u processor supports hyperthreading technology which means two cores can work like 4 virtual cores. The laptop comes with 4GB DDR4 RAM which is faster than DDR3L-1600MHz RAM.

Again, Acer E5-575-33BM comes with 1TB hard drive, full HD display and backlit keyboard. HP 15-F222 wm comes with low resolution display which supports max 1366 X 768 pixel. Again, HP laptop comes with only 500GB hard drive and has non-backlit keyboard. Full HD display offers you more accurate colors.  Both the laptops come with inbuilt optical drive which works as CD/DVD burner. Here is a brief review about specifications and performance of HP 15-f222wm

Intel Pentium N3540 quad core processor operates with 2.16GHZ of base frequency and the frequency can rise up to 2.66GHz, for some time, if system needs. The processor doesn’t support hyperthreading technology.  It has 2MB of L2 Cache. The laptop is not for AutoCAD, Revit, Solid Works and similar programs. If you are looking for a cheap alternative that serves you for longer period of time and offers performance with HD photo and video editing and some 3D modelling, then Acer E5-575G-53VG is a more appropriate option.

It comes with Intel core i5-6200u processor (2.3GHz-2.8GHz), NIVIDIA Geforce 940MX graphics with 2GB DDR5 RAM and 256GB Solid State Drive. It has full HD display and backlit keyboard as well. Solid state drives are much faster than 5400rpm hard drives and speed up things, especially if you dabble in photo and video editing or digital designing. Dedicated NVIDIA graphics not only boosts performance of the games, it also supports image and video editing. However, both Acer laptops mentioned above are non-touchscreen laptops.

Coming back to HP 15-f222wm, the laptop comes with 4GB DDR3L 1600MHz memory and 500GB 5400 rpm hard drive. It runs Windows 10 home operating system.

The 15.6” display of the laptop supports max resolution of 1366 X 768p which means it support 720p content but not 1080p. However, with the help of HDMI you can watch Full HD content on external display or monitor.

Ports and connectivity features in the laptop include 2 USB 3.0; 1 USB 2.0; 1 HDMI; 1 RJ-45 and 1 headphone/microphone combo. USB 3.1 type C port is missing in this laptop. The network connectivity is supported by 802.11 b/g/n and Fast Ethernet. Acer E5-575-33BM laptop offers wireless ac, Bluetooth and Gigabit Ethernet.

Battery pack coming with HP 15 F222wm offers around 5-6 hours of power backup, depending upon usage.

Final Thoughts

For Black Friday (Wal-Mart) price, HP 15-f222wm is a very attractive deal. However, we wish inclusion of better processor instead of touchscreen in the laptop, so as to get more performance for regular computing tasks. Alternatively, you can consider better equipped Acer E5-575-33BM for nearly similar price.

Dell I3558-5501BLK Laptop Review

7th generation Intel core i5-7200u equipped laptops are already available in the market but the all new  Dell I3558-5501BLK laptop still uses  5th generation Intel core i5-5200u processor which operates with 2.2GHz base frequency. The laptop has 8GB DDR4 RAM and 1TB hard drive. The laptop is fast enough for typing documents and term papers, processing spread sheets, creating presentation, emailing/skype etc. It can stream videos smoothly. You can use it for small photo and video editing as well. When it comes to gaming, the laptop supports low end games like Minecraft, Dota 2, Lego Batman,  Lego Marvel avengers. These games can be played in low to medium resolution and settings. High end games like Battlefield 1 and The Witcher 3 will struggle to run in this laptop. It has 8GB DDR4 processor and 256GB Solid state drive. It also has NVIDIA Geforce 940MX graphics with 2GB DDR5 RAM and Full HD display (1920 X 1080p). Though it is little expensive, Acer Aspire  E5-575G-57D4 is worth every penny you spend on it.

You will be getting a high end processor, DDR4 RAM (expandable up to 32GB) and discrete graphics . A 256GB Solid state drive alone cost you around $60-$100. Here is a brief review about specifications and performance of the Dell i3558-5501 laptop.

Intel core i5-5200u operates with base frequency of 2.2GHz and the frequency can rise up to 2.7GHz. It has 3MB of smart cache. On the other hand,  Intel core i5-7200u processor operates with 2.5GHz of base frequency and the frequency can rise up to 3.1GHz. Furthermore, speedier DDR4 RAM and 256GB Solid state drive boost the performance of the Acer laptop. However, if you need a laptop just for home and small office use, you can consider HP 15-ay013nr which is powered by 6th generation Intel core i5-6200u processor, 8GB RAM and 128GB Solid State Drive. It offers full HD display.

Dell I3558-5501BLK comes with 8GB DDR3L SDRAM and the memory is not expandable further. However, Acer E5-575G-57D4 allows upgrade memory up to 32GB. The Dell laptop comes with 1TB 5400rpm hard drive which is preloaded with Windows 10 home 64 bit operating system.

The 15.6” touchscreen display supports max resolution of 1366 X 768p which means it supports 720p content playback but not 1080p. However, with the help of HDMI you can watch full HD content on a compatible HDTV or monitor.

Ports and connectivity features in the laptop include 2 USB 2.0 ports, one USB 3.0 port, HDMI and headphone/mic combo. It doesn’t come with high speed USB 3.1 type C port. There is a full-size SD card reader. The laptop comes with non-backlit keyboard. Network connectivity is supported by Fast Ethernet, Wi-fi ac and Bluetooth. The battery offers up to 5hours of battery backup which depends upon usage.

Final thoughts

Dell I3558-5501BLK is an inexpensive touchscreen laptop but has few drawbacks.  For instance it uses 5th generation processor,  lacks Solid state drive and comes with standard display. The laptop incorporates integrated graphics so you have to compromise with games. Alternatively, you can consider Acer Aspire  E5-575G-57D4 which has 7th gen Intel i5 processor, 8GB DDR4 RAM, Nvidia graphics with 2GB DDR5 RAM and full HD display. It also offers Solid State hard drive.

HP 15-au147cl (Model #: X7U96UA#ABA) Review

HP 15-au147cl (Model #:  X7U96UA#ABA) promises great performance with its latest i7-7500u processor and 16GB RAM. It offers discrete graphics as well. Aside from day to day computing, it also supports demanding tasks like Adobe premiere pro, Corel Draw, 3Ds MAX etc. However, it comes with low resolution display and slower hard drive. It is a touchscreen laptop but a Solid state drive and Full HD display would have made it more useful. The solid state drive can speed up rendering process a bit and a full HD display offers more accurate colors. You can also consider Lenovo 510 laptop which is powered by Intel core i7-7500u processor, NVIDIA Geforce 940MX graphics with 4GB video memory and 256GB solid state Drive. It has full HD display but it is not a touchscreen laptop. It comes with 12GB DDR4 RAM and a backlit keyboard. Both, Model #:  X7U96UA#ABA and the Lenovo laptop, incorporate inbuilt optical drive. Basically, more memory is not always helpful in increasing performance while a solid state drive can speed up things a bit. It is true that certain programs like Cinema 4D need more memory but a dual core ultra voltage CPU will not work with such programs. You need high end processor. Here is a brief review about specifications and performance of HP 15-au147cl ( Model #:  X7U96UA#ABA ).

The Intel core i7-7500u processor is a dual core processor and operates within frequency range of 2.7GHz to 3.5GHz. It is zippier enough for day to day tasks. You can play latest games like Battlefield 1, GTA V, COD infinite warfare etc. on this machine. The laptop will stream movies and videos smoothly but full HD display will make gaming and watching movies more pleasurable. Small 3D modelling can be done on this laptop. However, the i7-7500u processor is not a quad core processor and NVidia graphics 940MX is not a solid graphics card. You need a workstation grade machine like HP Pavilion 15.6” Notebook which is powered by Intel core i7-6700HQ quad core processor, 32GB DDR4 RAM, 250GB SSD + 1TB HDD 7200rpm hybrid drive. It has NVIDIA GTX 960M graphics with 4GB GDDR5 memory. It also comes with full HD display. However, it doesn’t come with optical drive and doesn’t have touchscreen. It supports all latest games and 3D designing.

Intel core i7-6700Hq has 4 cores and each core operates with base frequency of 2.6GHZ and the frequency can rise up to 3.5GHz. On the other hand, i7-7500u has only two cores. Again both the laptops are built with 14nm technology and, thus, you will find i7-6700hq is much faster than i7-7500u. Core i7-6700HQ has higher cache than i7-7500u. Thus, the HP pavilion would be more appropriate option for 3D designing.

HP 15-au147cl comes with 16GB DDR4 RAM and 1TB 5400 rpm hard drive. Memory is not expandable further but you can replace hard drive with Solid state drive. Hard disk comes preinstalled with Windows 10 64 bit operating system.

As mentioned earlier,  HP 15-au147cl ( Model #:  X7U96UA#ABA ) offers max resolution up to 1366 X 768 pixels which can display 720p content but not 1080p. However, with the help of HDMI you can watch Full HD content on HDTV.

When it comes to ports and connectivity feature, the laptop offers 2 USB 3.0, 1 USB 2.0, 1 HDMI 1 RJ-45 (LAN) and 1 Headphone-out/microphone-in combo jack.  The laptop has webcam and SD card reader as well.

Network connectivity is supported by Fast Ethernet, Wi-fi ac and Bluetooth. The battery offers max battery backup of 6 hours, depending upon usage.

Final thoughts

If you consider the sale price (12th nov), I will not hesitate to say it is one of the most attractive laptop deals of the season.  Low resolution screen and 1TB hard drive are disappointing features though, especially if you are dealing with digital designing.

HP 17-X114DX Review

HP introduces the 7th generation Intel core i5-7200u processor in HP 17 X114DX. With 6GB RAM, it not only supports day to day tasks but can also help you with demanding tasks like HD photo and video editing,  transcoding videos and small 3D designing. However, in order to speed up things, a Solid State Drive is more preferable for such tasks. Again, 8GB memory is desirable for smooth execution of such tasks. The laptop comes with 1TB 5400 rpm standard hard drive.  HP 17-X114DX comes with integrated Intel HD 620 graphics which supports latest games like Call of Duty Infinite Warfare, Fifa 17 and Battlefield 1, but all the games are not playable in high resolution. You will not get high fps rate. If you are more into PC gaming or HD photo and video editing, then you can consider Acer 17.3” laptop which is also powered by Intel core i5-7200u but has 8GB DDR4 RAM and 256GB Solid State Drive. It comes with NVIDIA Geforce 940MX graphics with 2GB DDR5 RAM. It is a budget gaming laptop. It supports wireless ac and bluetooth. Wired network connectivity is supported by Gigabit Ethernet.  HP 17-X114DX supports 10/100 Mbps Ethernet and 802.11 b/g/n Wi-fi.

Acer 17.3” laptop has full HD display, which produces more accurate colors, while HP 17-X114DX comes with standard 1600 X 900 pixel resolution which can support 720p content but not 1080p. The drawback of the Acer laptop is it that it lacks CD/DVD while HP Model: 17-X114DX comes with inbuilt CD/DVD burner. Here is a brief review about specifications and performance of Model: 17-X114DX

Intel core i5-7200u is a dual core processor and operates between 2.5GHz to 3.1GHz frequency range.  It has 3MB of cache memory.  As mentioned earlier, the laptop comes with integrated Intel HD 620 graphics which uses system memory. Although it is integrated graphics, it still supports games like Minecraft, World of Warcraft and Sims. If you want to play demanding games, Acer 17.3” laptop with NVIDIA graphics will be a more suitable option. The NVIDIA graphics also helps in boosting the performance of Adobe software. You can run Solidworks on HP 17-X114DX but a machine with Solid State drive will be a better option.

HP 17 X114DX is installed with 6 GB DDR4 RAM 2133MHz memory which can be expanded up to 16GB. You can also consider Acer E5-774-50SY, which has 8GB DDR4 RAM and the memory is expandable up to 32GB. This laptop is powered by 7th generation Intel core i5-7200u processor and has 1TB hard drive. Though it cost you more, it comes with Full HD display which offers more accurate colors. It has optical drive as well as full-size SD card reader while the HP laptop comes with MicroSD reader.

The 17.3” display of HP X114DX supports max resolution of 1600 X 900p which support 720p content playback but not 1080p. However, with the help of HDMI you can watch Full HD content on compatible external display and TV.

The HP 17-X114DX comes with a number of ports and connectivity features which include – 1 USB 3.1 Gen 1 (also known as USB 3.0), 2 USD 2.0, 1 HDMI , 1 RJ-45 (LAN) ,1 Headphone-out/microphone-in combo jack and  1 MicroSD Dimensions . It has webcam as well. The laptop weighs around 5.9lbs approx. The laptop offers up to 6 hours of battery backup, depending upon usage.

Final thoughts

HP 17 X114DX comes with a solid processor but has less memory. Again, integrated graphics uses system memory. Thus, if you are looking for a laptop that offers performance for HD video editing, 3D rendering and compiling files, then  Acer 17.3” laptop with discrete graphics and 256GB Solid State Drive is a more suitable option for you.
